Whistleblowers
Everything else on this page's parent area depends on evidence that only exists inside. Protection is therefore not a nice sentiment attached to the end of a policy. It is the mechanism.
What real protection requires
- Speak publicly, with specifics. An employee must be able to say that something is wrong and make the specifics public — not only report them into the chain of command that is the subject of the report. A channel that routes a complaint to its own subject is not a channel.
- Survive the career, not the news cycle. Protection that lapses when attention moves on is protection for the period during which it was not needed.
- Retaliation carries a consequence. With no penalty attached to retaliating, the protection is decorative — and everyone inside knows which of the two is real.
- Clearance is not a hostage. Revoking access as an unappealable response to a disclosure converts a security instrument into a punishment.
The classification trap
The material that proves wrongdoing is frequently classified by the party the disclosure is about. That gives them a legal route to make the disclosure itself the offence, regardless of what it revealed. Any protection that does not address this handles only the cases that did not need handling.
What this movement does with a disclosure
- Treats it like every other source: attributed, dated, and checked against the rest of the record.
- Publishes what can be published and names the rest as a gap rather than hinting — Naming the gaps.
- Keeps the person's identity out of it where they want it kept out. Anonymity is a safety feature throughout this product, not a loophole in it — see Trust Scores, where a fully pseudonymous citizen can still reach the top of the ladder.
- Never records self-incrimination. The product does not keep a file that could be used against the person who filed it.
